Many ways:

1. Use a square whose corner to corner length is less than the diameter of the circle.

2. If you don't have one, make the peg smaller or

3. make the hole bigger.

4. Bash it lots and lots, probably damaging both the peg and hole in the process.

5. Cut the peg up in to little pieces and put them through one by one.

6. If the peg is made of a compressible material, squash it down, feed it through, and then let it regain its natural shape.

7. If the hole is made of an elastic material: stretch it to allow the peg through, and then let it regain its natural shape.

Just sand paper or plane the edges off the square peg until it fits in the round hole -- easy!!

Well, On one episode of the Jetsons, George was going through Army indoctrination and they were giving an intelligence test. The big dumb guy in front of him couldn't fit the square peg in the round hole so he took his fist and pounded it into the hole. Suddenly, lights started flashing and a voice started saying, "Officer Material!! Officer Material!!".

Make sure the length from one point of the square to the other is smaller than the diameter of the hole.

No one has mentioned making the hole square yet, so that's my answer!
