Question:
What does "New In Box" mean on eBay?

I see this item marked "sealed", but it is marked only as "like" new and the title says NIB. I'm a little paranoid since I just bid on it and this is my first time on eBay.

You should ask the seller a question to clarify what they mean.

I sell on Ebay, with older toys, even if they are in their original box I do no mark them as new, only as "like new" if that is the condition.

Once an item has been in a home environment for years, it cannot really be called new. It's been exposed to dust and allergens, possible discoloration of the box from sunlight and so on. It isn't as perfect as it was back when it was made unless it was stored in a sealed container in a climate controlled environment and protected from all light.

In other words, if it's a ten year old toy it won't be as perfect as it was new from the store even if it is still in the original box. Some wear and tear to the box should be expected.

I would suggest looking closely at the photos in the listing and asking the seller what they mean by "like new".

Next time, do that BEFORE you bid. If you win you are obligated to buy the item and it's no one's fault but your own if you didn't read the description. The seller has to pay to sell the item to you, it's not fair for them to lose fees because you didn't check the description before bidding.

I'm sure you'll learn that as you go along on Ebay..

Perhaps the seller has listed a similar item before, and to save time is using that previous listing as a "template" and didn't edit the new listing correctly?

Or perhaps the box is really sealed, but has a corner lightly crushed in?

In any event, feel free to ask the seller for a clarification. Just make the inquiry polite, not accusatory, and I'm sure you'll get a prompt answer.

When you see Reserve not Met, it means that the person putting the item up for sale has set a minimum price for it. If the bids do not meet that minimum price then the item is not sold. It is a bit silly though, why pay for Ebay's services and not sell your product because you wanted a specific minimum amount to begin with. Just place the minimum amount you want as the starting price. Though that is just my personal opinion on that.
